Begin with the room and the installation format. A model's advertised width alone will not tell you whether it fits your wall.

1. Decide how it should sit in the room

A wall-mount fireplace hangs on the wall surface. A built-in fireplace or insert recesses into a framed opening or an existing firebox. Think about the finished look, nearby furniture and whether you are prepared to alter the wall.

2. Collect the exact model documents

Before framing or ordering, get the manufacturer's installation manual for the exact model. Check the unit dimensions, framing dimensions, clearances and service access separately. A lifestyle photo is not a substitute for the manual.

3. Confirm the electrical plan

Power supply and connection requirements vary by model. Ask a qualified electrician to confirm the selected fireplace's requirements, the available circuit and applicable local rules.

4. Plan the surrounding wall

If you want a television, shelf or mantel nearby, check that arrangement against the fireplace's installation instructions. A photograph is not evidence that a layout is suitable.
