Buying gas fireplaces for propane or natural gas
What gas fireplace styles are available?
Every model in this collection is a Sierra Flame gas fireplace. Linear units such as the Vienna, Bennett and Newcomb give a long, low flame. The Toscana is a three-sided bay-front model with double glass on the front and both sides, and the Lyon 48 is a four-sided see-through unit. The Emerson and Palisade are see-through models that show the fire in two rooms. For an existing masonry fireplace there is the Abbot 30 insert, and for the patio the Tahoe 45 is an all-stainless-steel outdoor linear fireplace.
Heat output depends on the model and fuel. Listings run from about 16,000 BTU on the smaller units to 40,500 BTU on the Tahoe 45 outdoor model. Remote options vary as well: the Austin and Stanford include a remote, and the Newcomb is sold with either a deluxe or a basic remote.
Should I buy propane or natural gas?
Buy the version that matches the fuel you have. If your home has a natural gas line, choose an NG model. If you use a propane tank, choose an LP model. Most Sierra Flame units here are sold as separate natural gas and propane listings, while some series offer both fuels as options on a single listing. Confirm the fuel stated on the listing before you check out.

Who should install a gas fireplace?
A qualified, licensed gas technician should connect the gas line, install the venting and start the unit, and the job has to meet local building and fuel gas codes. Venting differs by model. Many units here are direct vent, and some, like the Emerson, use top venting only. Some listings, such as the Lamego, note that venting material and a remote are not included, so confirm what ships with the unit and budget for the rest.
Gas Fireplace Questions
Are there vent-free gas fireplaces in this collection?
No. None of the indoor gas fireplaces here are vent-free, and each manual lists the venting it requires.
Do Sierra Flame gas fireplaces have electronic ignition?
Several do, including the Lamego 45 and Boston 36. Check the listing for the ignition type and the remote that comes with each model.
Can I use a gas fireplace outdoors?
Only a model built for it. The Sierra Flame Tahoe 45 is an outdoor stainless steel linear fireplace in natural gas and propane versions; indoor models should stay indoors.
