Outdoor Electric Fireplaces

Choosing an outdoor electric fireplace

What makes an electric fireplace outdoor rated?

An outdoor electric fireplace is a model the manufacturer rates for outdoor installation in its product listing and manual. That rating does not mean the unit can sit out in any weather. The manual for each model sets the conditions, including how exposed the location can be and what electrical protection the circuit needs.

Every unit in this collection is made by Amantii or Remii and carries that indoor or outdoor rating. On the Amantii side you'll find the TRD Bespoke and TRD Lumina inserts, the Panorama Xtraslim, Slim and Deep built-in series, the SYM series from 34 to 100 inches, the three-sided TRV and Tru-View models and the WM-FM wall units. Remii contributes its 102745 family of built-ins in XS, DE and XT depths, the three-sided Bay Slim line and the WM Lumina and WM Slim wall mount models. Nominal sizes run from 26 inches up to 100 inches.

Depth is the other choice. The Panorama Xtraslim is about 4 inches deep, while the Slim, Deep and Deep XT series need a deeper frame. Remii builds its 102745 family in XS, DE and extra-tall XT versions. Most of the outdoor-rated models here also connect over WiFi, so you can run the flames and heater from your phone. Other features vary by series. The TRD Bespoke and Remii WM Slim models add canopy lighting, and the SYM Lumina units include a glass and oak log set. Check each listing for the media that ships with the unit.

Where can I install an outdoor electric fireplace?

Common spots are a patio wall, a covered porch or an outdoor kitchen surround. Read the installation manual for the exact model before you frame anything. It lists the locations the manufacturer allows, any cover or overhang the unit needs, the clearances to keep, and whether the circuit must be GFCI protected. Many outdoor built-ins are hardwire ready, so plan the wiring with a licensed electrician early.

Built-in units need a framed opening, while the wall mount models hang on the wall surface. If you want to see the fire from the sides as well as the front, the three-sided TRV and Bay Slim units suit a bump-out or the end of a wall. Some Amantii SYM XT models are also listed for indoor bathroom installs.

Do outdoor models need a cover?

Some do. Amantii states that its stainless steel PAN-COV cover is required for outdoor installations of the Panorama Xtraslim, Slim and Deep series. The covers are sold by nominal size from 40 to 88 inches, so match the cover to your fireplace width. For other series, check the manual for any cover or protection the manufacturer calls for.
