What is a wall mounted electric fireplace?

A wall mounted electric fireplace is a slim unit that hangs on the face of a finished wall like a TV, with no framed opening behind it. It gives a room a flame display and supplemental heat without any construction.

This collection includes the Amantii Evolution series in 36, 42, 50 and 60 inches, the Amantii WM-FM models from 26 to 88 inches, Sierra Flame WM-FML units with steel surrounds from 26 to 72 inches, and several Remii lines: WM Lumina from 34 to 100 inches, WM Slim at 45, 55 and 65 inches, and the Horizon series.

The looks differ by series. The Sierra Flame WM-FML models have a steel surround, the Remii WM Slim adds canopy lighting, and the Amantii WM-FM line offers adjustable backlight colors with a driftwood-style log set.

Can a wall mounted fireplace also be recessed?

Some can. The Amantii WM-FM models can be built in flush or wall mounted, so you can start on the wall surface and recess the unit later during a remodel. Other models are made only for surface mounting. If you know you want the glass flush with the wall from day one, a built-in model will give you more depth options.

How do I power and mount one?

Check the listing and manual for the power connection first, since some units plug in and others are meant to be hardwired. Mount the brackets into studs or with anchors rated for the unit's weight, and keep the clearances the manual lists above and below. Hide the cord or wiring in the wall with an approved kit or have an electrician add an outlet behind the unit.
