Direct Vent Gas Fireplaces
Direct vent gas fireplaces seal the fire behind glass and vent it straight outside, so room air stays in the room. Sierra Flame models here come in natural gas and propane versions.
Buying a direct vent gas fireplace
What is a direct vent gas fireplace?
A direct vent gas fireplace has a sealed combustion chamber that pulls outside air in for the fire and sends exhaust back outside through a coaxial vent pipe. Because the glass front is sealed, it doesn't use the air in your room for combustion.
All units in this collection are Sierra Flame direct vent models. They include the Vienna linear fireplaces at 40, 50 and 60 inches, the Bennett 45, Stanford 55 and Austin 65, and 36-inch models such as the Newcomb, Boston, Thompson and the see-through Palisade. The Abbot 30 is an insert for an existing fireplace. Listed heat output runs from about 16,000 to 38,000 BTU depending on the model.
Do I need natural gas or propane?
Order the version that matches the fuel supply at your home. Most Sierra Flame models here are sold as separate natural gas (NG) and liquid propane (LP) listings, and the Vienna series offers both as options on one listing.

How is a direct vent fireplace installed?
A qualified, licensed gas technician should handle the gas line, the venting and the startup, and the install must meet local codes. Several models, including the Austin, Stanford and Newcomb, are set up for top venting. Use the vent configurations and clearances listed in the manual when you plan the run through a wall or roof.
Direct Vent Gas Fireplace Questions
Can a direct vent fireplace go on an interior wall?
It can if the vent pipe can reach outside within the lengths and configurations the manual allows. Your installer will confirm the route before framing.
Is there a direct vent gas insert for an existing fireplace?
Yes. The Sierra Flame Abbot 30 is a direct vent gas insert, offered with brick or black porcelain panels in natural gas and propane versions.
Are surrounds available for these fireplaces?
Sierra Flame makes black clean-face surrounds with a safety barrier for the Austin and Stanford models. Check each listing for what trim or front is included.
